Working it out.....
So, it's been a while since I've updated here..before the break i finished editing and timing my animation in Final Cut Pro, intending to import it into After Effects, but then i saw that things are gonna get out of control, as frames were missing because of rendering and it effected the images. Jack suggested to keep it simple and stay with one program, because otherwise it's gonna get complicated - and i agree + I'm NOT good with computers, so we don't want this combination..
I deleted what i finished exporting in Final Cut and over the break i worked out the timing with my original files and changed the numbering as well, so when the time comes, all i will have to do is to import each image sequence for each shot and that's it.
Now the animation is really ready.
Today in Adrien's class i got back to AE - and i was organising all of my backgrounds timed to the Animatic + all the camera moves. I added the Titles (beginning and end) and the sound FX + the theme - it's all set and what I've got left is to place my animation for each shot on top of each background.
Once I'll see it all ready and finished in black and white, I'll focus on colouring (I'm still considering it, because i love how it came out with the pencil lines) and i finished!!!!!
Jack, i will probably need your help on Friday with it. I really think i can finish it this weekend, not much left at all...
That's all for now :)

update...
The last two weeks i was going through the animation and i ended up fixing a lot + redoing shots like the walk cycle. Jack, i took your notes and tried to fix the movements with several frames. I was working on the establishing shot as well, as it was lacking details in the foreground.
Now that i fixed the animation and completed putting the backgrounds all together + cleaning them, i started scanning the animation (each frame individualy because every place that i went to wanted to ripp me off (90$ for scanning 250 images to files!!!!!!!!!!!!! - crazy), so i finished scanning half of it.
I really hope that by the end of this weekend i would be able to put my animation with the backgrounds together and add my soundtrack with the titles - so i can finally see it all together and if it works. If everything is o.k, i'll work out the timing and colour everything and i hope i'll be able to finish it all by the end of the month or even september...
I'll replace all the pencil tests on my blog with the new ones soon...

dont use auto exposure, auto aperature, auto iris or auto anything when shooting stop motion. this will eliminate the need for the flicker tools.

Nir's Minor Project Report
Minor Project Report – Nir Bar: Reflection
The Minor project for me started before week 1. I started the backgrounds over the semester break. I did the backgrounds traditionally with watercolours in two weeks, and then started to animate the first shots in the film. Everything went according to my schedule (despite the fact i wasn’t happy with the backgrounds and the animation) and i kept on animating the rough animation, because I knew I’ll get back to it and fix whatever needed to be fixed.
With the backgrounds I did over the break – I saw it as an experiment, as I didn’t liked the style, so I decided to leave it for the end, because for me the heart of everything is the animation and I knew it’s going to take a while to get to the right movements. The sound was ready last semester with the Animatic because I was constantly thinking about what I really want as a theme when I developed the story. I searched and searched and finally I found it “under my nose”. I had that specific theme from a soundtrack I had for years. In the first few weeks, I tried to reach the right bodies for the copyright issue and permissions, but I gave up, It was hard to find the right body/individual. I also understood that as far as the assessment concern, there’s no real problem and students can use any music as long as it’s not shown publicly.
During these weeks (1-7) I managed to finish off all the parts of my animation + corrections, details, scenes (Over week 5-6 – 13-15/8 I pushed it and finished the entire animation) as I tried to improve my work. I ended up animating the 2 first shots all over again and the 7th shot as well. When I did that, I felt like I knew the character much better - the way the character acts and think, I tried to understand what motivation it has and what drives it...why it acts the way it acts. The more I drew it, the better I knew it, so my drawings were much better in terms of poses, appeal and structure.I also did an extra new pose sheet for each character as the design changed from the original designs at the first semester in Pre-Production.
I set myself a goal that by the end of week 7 I’ll finish the backgrounds too (without color) and so I did. I finished them over week 7. With the backgrounds I had a few problems regarding the construction and the coloring. I solved it out with some tips from Jack and Adrian – my problem wasn’t the creation of the backgrounds, but the way to establish them – a technical issue.
At the beginning of the production I was sure that I will have to create different separate elements and color them and then put it all together, just because I didn’t know if there’s other way of doing it (like drawing the backgrounds as piece by piece to details and then separate all the details into layers (but it turned out that there’s a really simple way of doing it and I discovered it 2 weeks ago in Photoshop).
That was my main concern – because I didn’t knew how to approach the backgrounds and if to them traditionally or digitally, but the problem is now solved.
To conclude my progress until now: I Finished all the animation + clean up, I finished all the backgrounds (no color) and the sound is ready, so now I’m going to concentrate on coloring all the backgrounds + recheck all the animation I’ve done (I want to improve the entire piece and change some of the shots for sure) and then at the end coloring the animation, put the sound and do a final edit with the titles.

update...
Alright, so basically i finished the Animation, and was working on the backgrounds over the weekend - by the 27/8 the backgrounds would be finished (without colour). I'm still figuring what's the best way to colour them...not sure about the digital way just because it takes me more time, so I'm thinking about either coloured pencils (very light, just to get the feeling, cause i want the pencil lines to be seen OR maybe even goash...i believe more in the traditional way, there are so many details and sometimes it takes me to long in photoshop, but we'll see this week.
Few months ago, i thought about creating elements and duplicate them, but it won't blend so well and it's too lazy for me, so I'm still thinking, but at least all the backgrounds are finished in pencil.
2 more comments from Jack were that i should add a bit of sound effects for the establishing shot - and I'm looking for the right one....and more flow with the Arcs of the head. The biggest comment was to add another shot of the flamingo trying to fly, but fails and then the tear drops...and i did quick thumbnail sketches of the shot, but it changes the shots before and after. I will definitely get to it once i know that the backgrounds are finished, as i don't want to wait with them too long..got to finish quickly. so backgrounds are in progress, so as the sound search for the beginning, and as for the animation movements and the new shot - would be added after i finish.

as i said on friday, Holmesglen already has a few sets of these, but the real issue is that they cant be hired for long periods of time.
i hope the link is what you need.
cheers

Reflection-The theme music and sound
So that's my Animatic with the sound - I'm really really happy with it...just need to find that wings sound effect - the one that attracts his attention to look up through the clouds..
Almost there...
So it's about time to update...I nearly finished animating. i pushed it the last few weeks, so now all i got left is re-check some of my latest tests. Most of it is checked and working. I also have a few finishes (adding several frames here and there) and regarding the timing for the last few tests- I'll work it out in the editing stage. So this weekend (13-15/8) I'm finishing off all the details and continuing with the backgrounds which i hope that by the end of August I'll be finishing (Jack, i want to see my animation on top of the background too :) them.
The rough sound is ready. I found a better sound effect for the wind, but couldn't find a proper one for the wings..still in search.
Nirbar.blogspot.com - for the latest pencil tests.

Lots of improvments
So the passed weekend i was basically going through all the animations that i've done and going through the details and the scenes. I was trying to think of ways to improve the work. I animated the 1st shot all over again completely different this time (i prefer it over the 1st one), i add a few frames to a few shots, fixed details like feet and tail and kept on animating a flight cycle which was the next shot according to the shots.
In addition i'm working on a new pose sheet cause when i'm animating i find new interesting poses as i go and it's better then the early sketches in pre-production. I also feel that i know the character much better and when improving the way the character acts, i try to understand what motivation it have and what drives it...why it acts the way it acts.
New pencil tests will be uploaded this week i hope (If i'll have luck ofcourse)
Step by step.

Some Good Online Animation Books Too
These are excellent reads.
The nine old men PDFs from Animation Meat
Walt Stanchfield "Drawn to Life" PDFs from Animation Meat
If you like the Walt Stanchfield ones, I suggest getting your hands on a copy of the two "Drawn to Life" texts. You can get it on Amazon, but check in your library first.

and about the sound - so like i said, basically i have it ready and it's on my Animatic, as i looked for the right theme last semester. I already sent several e-mails to the relevant bodies, waiting for an answer...if i won't get any response in the upcoming week, i'll start making some phone calls.

Pieced Together
Currently i am working on backgrounds. Unfortunately it is talking much longer then expected and have now spent close to 6 weeks working on them. It was about week 3 that i realised i had roughly 24 to do. After hyperventilating by the window for about 20 minutes i made a spead sheet outlining each season and how may background are relevant to that. I will upload it to my blog for better reference.
I will also upload some backgrounds that ive done. I think the total is at 13.
